This business about the way we treat Jehovah's witnesses that come here has bothered me for a while. I have only started 4 threads this year. One of them was:

People were divided on the matter but I like to think they took on board other people's points.

we've all heard that the new song book is really, really, really bad......but i didn't see many examples cited of just how they changed some of the wording.
oh sure, we all know by now how incredibly hard it is to sing along with the garbage they wrote, tempo, lack of beat, odd rythm, timing, etc, etc.

The JW song book has always been devised to plant thoughts in the sub-conscious of the gullible fools who give voice to these mind numbingly crass lyrics.
The new song book has become more blatant. Perhaps the 'steward here on earth' realises it is losing its grip and is becoming less subtle.

To discriminate against people for exercising their right to worship, or not, in the way that they wish, amounts to oppression.

i would like to propose an ethical dilemma for those who believe in the divine inspiration of the bible.. in the following scenarios i am not asking you what you would have done but rather, what you hope you would have had the courage to do.. scenario 1. you are camped on the east side of the jordan waiting for orders to cross into the promised land.
moses is nearing the end of his life but he has some unfinished business to take care of before he hands over to joshua.
he announces that he has had an instruction from god to take revenge on the midianites before he dies.
All history books are full of accounts of bloodshed, torture and selfish acts by mankind. The history of the 20th century is no better. Recently, Bush and Blair both said that God told them to attack Iraq.
Man has invented many gods and used them as scapegoats for their barbaric actions. They have written many Holy books and claimed they were inspired to write them. Obviously we need to look beyond these self serving history books, if we are to make progress in our search for answers to the mystery of the universe.
There are spiritual paths that seek to explain the hidden forces behind mankinds actions. They don't insist that we accept the notion of a man styled deity shouting out instructions from the sky. Until we get past that man made concept of a god, debates like this will continue for infinitem.

People who are simply non religious are sometimes labeled as Atheists. To not have a religion or any interest in religion is different to not believing in a God.
If there is an intelligent force at work in the universe does it take the form of a Deity? I for example do not consider that existence of a deity as described in holy books and scriptures is realistic or accurate. I have no time for organized, commercialized religion. This does not mean that I have ruled out the possibility that the universe is permeated by a coordinated intelligence.
Such intelligence does not have to have a plan or fixed moral rules, but could operate by a very different kind of process to the one that goes on in our heads, that we choose to label as intelligence.
So before we enquire into one's belief in God we have to define God
